Hannibal was born in 247 BCE in Carthage. As a child, he made a promise that he would hate Romans for his whole life. After being part of several military operations, he was elected as Commander-in-Chief of the army. He marched over 100 thousand men from New Carthage, across the Pyrenees and through the Alps. He defeated the Romans at Taurini and then moved throughout Italy, capturing towns and defeating armies. But eventually his army was defeated and he had to go back to Carthage. When Rome demanded his surrender, he fled. He eventually ended up poisoning himself so that he would not be taken by the Romans. The Romans saw him as a monster, but I think that he was a great military leader. He was very determined and clever, even though his plan to destroy the Romans did not work.
